air tightness testAir Tightness Testing

The Air Tightness Test measures the uncontrolled flow of air from a building.

Each new development requires one unit of each type to be tested (if using robust details)

If robust details are not used then a percentage of the unit types require testing depending
on the size of the development.

Each unit tested must achieve a standard of 10.0 m3/(h.m2) @ 50pa or the Design Air
Permeability calculated in the SAP Energy Rating (whichever is the lower)

Our testers are accredited with the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing
Conducting tests to the ATTMA Technical Standard 1
Using approved equipment calibrated at a certified UKAS laboratory

sap energy ratingsSAP Energy Ratings

The SAP (Standard Assessment Procedure) energy rating, calculates the Carbon Dioxide Emission Rate of a dwelling (DER).

It is a Government defined procedure in accordance with Part L1A
of the Building Regulations amendments 2006.

All new residential dwellings require a SAP energy rating.

Each new dwelling assessed must achieve a Dwelling Carbon Dioxide Emission Rate of
equal to or less than its Target Carbon Dioxide Emission Rate.

Our SAP assessors are accredited to calculate energy ratings using Elmhurst Energy
Design System SAP 2005.

sbem asset ratingSBEM Assets Rating

SBEM (Simplified Building Energy Model) calculates the energy performance of buildings, other than dwellings.

It is a Government defined procedure in accordance with Part L2A
of the Building Regulations amendments 2006.

All new Commercial, Industrial and Retail buildings require a SBEM asset rating

area weighted u valueArea Weighted U Value

This method of calculation can be used for extensions to existing dwellings.

It is a government defined procedure in accordance with part L2B of the building regulations amendments 2006.

A way of complying would be to show that the average U Value of the proposed extension is no greater than that of an extension of the same size and shape that complies with the U Value standards referred to in paragraph 14 and the opening area in paragraph 15 of part L1B of the Building Regulations.
